
MANILA — Combined rains from the Southwest Monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong have caused ₱5.25 billion in damage to public infrastructure across multiple regions, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Friday, July 25.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing the Bureau of Maintenance, said the partial damage estimate includes ₱913.02 million in national roads, ₱148.48 million in bridges, and ₱4.19 billion in flood control structures. The figures cover the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, 4-B, 6, and the Negros Island Region, and are subject to further validation.
As of noon, nineteen national road sections remain closed to traffic due to landslides, debris, flooding, and other hazards. These include nine roads in CAR, four in Region I, four in Region III, and two in Region IV-A.
The closed roads include:
- Ferguson Road, Baguio City
- Kennon Road (various points in Camp 6, Tuba, Benguet)
- Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet boundary road
- Mt. Province boundary-Calanan-Pinukpuk-Abbut road, Kalinga
- Several sections of Urdaneta-Dagupan-Lingayen Road and Judge Jose de Venecia Avenue in Pangasinan
- Roads in Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Batangas
Meanwhile, thirty-seven national roads have limited access due to soil collapse, flooding, and road slips. These include roads in CAR, the National Capital Region, Regions I, III, IV-A, IV-B, V, IX, and the Negros Island Region.
Notable affected roads with limited access include:
- Manila North Road sections in Bulacan and Pampanga
- Noveleta-Naic-Tagaytay Road
- Calamba-Sta. Cruz-Famy Junction Road in Laguna
- Roads in Oriental and Occidental Mindoro
- Libon–Bacolod–San Vicente road in Albay
- Bayawan-Mabinay road in Negros Oriental
- Liloy-Siocon and Zamboanga West Coastal Roads in Zamboanga del Norte
The DPWH continues to monitor the situation and coordinate clearing operations across affected areas.
