MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese woman was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for allegedly misrepresenting herself as a Filipino citizen, in a case authorities say bears resemblance to that of Bamban Mayor Alice Guo.

The National Bureau of Investigation-Cavite District Office (NBI-CAVIDO), in coordination with the Bureau of Immigration (BI), apprehended Wang Xiujun on July 13 upon her arrival from Guangdong, China. Authorities said Wang had been using the name Cassia Palma Poliquit in business dealings in the Philippines.

According to an intelligence report received by the NBI-CAVIDO, Wang managed to obtain a Philippine passport under the Filipino name through late registration of a birth certificate and later used this identity to establish several companies, based on records from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Despite claiming to be a Filipino, verification with the Bureau of Investment confirmed Wang is a Chinese national holding a Special Investor’s Resident Visa (SIRV).

A comparative fingerprint analysis conducted by the NBI’s Dactyloscopy Division confirmed that the fingerprints of Cassia Palma Poliquit in her passport and NBI clearance matched those of Wang Xiujun, confirming they are the same person.

Wang has been charged by the BI with misrepresentation as a Filipino, violating the limitations and conditions of her stay, and being an undesirable alien. The NBI-CAVIDO also filed criminal complaints against her before the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office on July 28 for violations of the Revised Penal Code and Republic Act 8239 or the Philippine Passport Act of 1996.

NBI Director Medardo G. Santiago lauded NBI-CAVIDO for the operation and underscored the importance of strong coordination among government agencies. Santiago also said the bureau will further investigate what could be another “Alice Guo” case.
