MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded the public that nationwide voters’ registration will resume on Friday, August 1, with the aim of reaching more first-time registrants and other eligible voters.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said in a virtual meeting that the 10-day registration period, which will run until August 10, will be conducted not only in local Comelec offices but also in selected public and private establishments to accommodate more applicants.

“The voter registration will be held from Aug. 1 to 10. All Offices of Elections Officer are ready to accept applications for new voters, among others,” Garcia said.

The Comelec will also accept applications for change of name and civil status, correction of entries, reactivation of registration records, inclusion and reinstatement of names in the list of voters, updating of records for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, Indigenous Peoples, and Indigenous Cultural Communities, and transfer of registration from overseas to local.

Online applications will be accepted for reactivation, reactivation with change or correction of records, and reactivation with updating of records.

Garcia also said they are preparing to implement the Register Anytime Program, where registration may be done between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. in select locations such as airports.

“For the Registration Anytime Program, the registration time will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. We are planning to put up registration booths in airports,” he said.

The Register Anywhere Program will also be conducted in malls, bus terminals, and other high-foot traffic areas. Applications under this program will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but only until August 7.

“We need to forward their applications to the city/municipality where they intend to vote on election day,” Garcia explained.

The 10-day registration is in preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). However, Garcia said that if the scheduled December 1 BSKE is postponed, Comelec may extend the registration period beyond August 10 until July 2026.

The measure seeking to suspend the BSKE is currently awaiting the signature of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. If signed into law, the next BSKE will be moved to the first Monday of November 2026. (PNA)
