MANILA, Philippines — The Senate elected its committee chairpersons, solidifying the upper chamber’s leadership structure a day after the opening of the first regular session of the 20th Congress.

Senate President Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero presided over the session as the chamber selected the lawmakers who will lead the various standing committees.
