MANILA — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has partnered with global video platform TikTok to intensify efforts against illegal recruitment and online job scams targeting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and TikTok Philippines Public Policy Head Yves Gonzalez signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the World Day Against Trafficking celebration on July 30 at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City.
The agreement aims to boost digital safeguards through stricter content monitoring, user empowerment, and wider dissemination of verified information—aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to protect and empower OFWs.
“Sa TikTok mas mapapalakas ang ating laban kontra illegal recruitment. We are being alert, TikTok is a means in which we fight illegal recruitment, we ensnare the illegal recruiters,” said Cacdac.
Since 2023, the DMW and TikTok Philippines have removed or deactivated nearly 41,000 fake job postings and suspicious accounts related to overseas recruitment.
Under the partnership, both parties will coordinate on verifying legitimate accounts, spreading accurate information, and banning fraudulent accounts involved in serious or repeated violations. TikTok will also assist the DMW in digital investigations and content moderation.
“Safety is our top priority in TikTok,” said TikTok Public Policy Manager Peachy Paderna, affirming the platform’s support for the initiative.
DMW Undersecretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay, Officer-in-Charge of the DMW Strategic Communications Service, issued a firm warning to online scammers: “We may not be able to close you down, but we will take you down.”
The collaboration is part of the government’s broader effort to safeguard Filipino workers in the digital space and ensure safer access to overseas job opportunities.
