MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has placed a sports utility vehicle (SUV) under alarm after its driver fled the scene of a road accident that injured a motorcycle rider in Quezon City.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the move aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to pursue erring motorists. The agency acted after the SUV’s driver failed to help the injured rider and sped off following a collision along Commonwealth Avenue in front of UP Technohub on July 11.

“We already identified the registered owner of the Land Cruiser and we already issued a show cause order. We are yet to determine if the owner was the driver of the vehicle that time, this will be the subject of the ongoing investigation and the reason why he was summoned,” Mendoza said.

The LTO said once it confirms who was driving the Toyota Land Cruiser with plate number NAJ9218 at the time of the incident, the driver’s license will be suspended for 90 days.

The injured motorcycle rider was brought to a nearby hospital with the help of motorists and bystanders.

In a show cause order signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) Chief Renante Melitante, the SUV’s registered owner and the involved driver were summoned to appear at the IID office in Quezon City on August 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

“In view thereof, you, as the registered owner together with the involved driver at the time of incident are hereby directed to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), Land Transportation Office, East Avenue, Quezon City, on 07 August 2025 (Thursday) at 10:00 A.M.,” the order read.

The order also requires them to explain in writing why they should not be held liable for reckless driving, for violating Section 55 of Republic Act 4136 (Duty of Driver in Case of Accident), and why the license should not be suspended or revoked for being an “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle” under Section 27(a) of the same law.

“The Toyota Land Cruiser (SUV) bearing Plate No. NAJ9218 was placed under alarm to prevent any and all transactions while under investigation and compel the appearance of the registered owner and the involved driver,” the SCO read.
