MANILA — National Security Adviser Secretary Eduardo Año condemned China’s testing of its Long March 12 rocket, describing it as an “irresponsible” act that endangered residents in Palawan and caused public alarm.

“We condemn in no uncertain terms the irresponsible testing done by the People’s Republic of China of its Long March 12 rocket which alarmed the public and placed the people of Palawan at risk,” Año said in a statement.

Loud explosions from the rocket launch reportedly caused widespread panic in Puerto Princesa City and nearby coastal municipalities, with residents witnessing a fireball crossing the sky before exploding and shaking the ground.

While no injuries or damage have been reported, Año warned that falling rocket debris poses serious risks to land areas, ships, aircraft, and fishing vessels passing through the designated drop zone. He added that debris could also drift toward nearby coastal areas.

Surface and aerial assets were deployed Tuesday morning to search for debris linked to the launch from China’s Hainan Island.

The public has been urged to report any sightings of suspected rocket debris to local authorities and to avoid contact with potential remnants, which may contain toxic fuel residues. The National Security Council said it is coordinating with coastal communities and local officials.
