TOKYO — Higher US tariffs on Japanese cars severely hit the earnings of seven major Japanese automakers in April to June, with Nissan Motor Co. and Mazda Motor Corp. posting fiscal first-quarter losses for the first time in five years.
Earnings reports for the first quarter of fiscal 2025 showed Nissan recording a group net loss of ¥115.76 billion, reversing from a ¥28.56 billion profit a year earlier.
Mazda reported a ¥42.10 billion net loss, compared with a ¥49.81 billion profit in the same period last year.
Industry analysts said the steep tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump have significantly disrupted Japan’s auto exports to one of its key markets. (Jiji Press via PNA)
