MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is planning to revive its online registration system once voter sign-up resumes, Chairperson George Garcia said Monday.

“We already had an online registration before, so we will just intensify the e-register. It is almost certain that we will implement the e-register in the future,” Garcia said in an interview.

Under the proposed system, applicants may file their registration online but must still visit local Comelec offices to take their oaths and submit biometrics, including photographs, fingerprints, and signatures.

“One may submit (application) on the online platform and then he/she will be given a schedule when to go to the Comelec to take the oath of office and have pictures, fingerprints and signature taken,” Garcia said. “Online submission but biometrics must be taken.”

Garcia said bringing back the e-registration would give the public more options and speed up the registration process. (PNA)
