MANILA — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested an American national in Parañaque City for allegedly operating a business without the proper visa.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Daniel Sung Pil Koh, 54, was apprehended along Aguirre Avenue on August 5 after authorities confirmed he was managing a restaurant despite holding only a tourist visa.

Viado said the arrest followed an anonymous report and subsequent surveillance, which also found online videos of Koh publicly identifying himself as the restaurant’s owner.

“This arrest is a clear message that the Bureau will not tolerate any form of abuse of our visa system,” Viado said. “We welcome foreigners who visit and invest legally, but we will act decisively against those who disregard our laws.”

Viado reminded foreign nationals that tourist visas do not permit gainful employment or business activity in the Philippines.

Koh is in BI custody pending deportation proceedings.
