The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested Jonathan Fabia Abetria in Pasay City for allegedly selling medical abortion pills and other illegal drugs online.

The operation was conducted by the NBI-Dangerous Drugs Division (NBI-DDD) under the directive of NBI Director Judge Jaime B. Santiago (Ret.) as part of its intensified campaign against unlawful distribution of abortion pills.

Abetria was apprehended inside a small warehouse in Pasay City following information from a confidential informant about a clandestine drug business he was operating. The suspect allegedly sold abortion pills and other abortive medications without a Certificate of Registration (COR), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license, or License to Operate (LTO) issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

An FDA advisory confirmed that the medicines sold by Abetria were not authorized for public distribution or dispensing without proper FDA approval.

NBI-DDD agents, posing as customers, were able to order abortive pills worth ₱28,000, another drug worth ₱8,000, and an alleged “rape drug” priced at ₱4,500 per piece through an online customer service channel. On August 13, 2025, an undercover agent coordinated with the delivery service provider to finalize the transaction. Abetria was arrested after receiving the marked money.

During the arrest, authorities seized a significant quantity of illegal medications. Abetria was presented for inquest proceedings for violations of Republic Act No. 9711 (FDA Law), R.A. No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act), R.A. No. 10918 (Philippine Pharmacy Act), and R.A. No. 7394 (Consumer Act of 1991).

Director Santiago commended the NBI-DDD for the successful operation and urged the public to only obtain medicines from registered and accredited pharmacies to protect their health.
