The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order against the registered owner of a Toyota Prado whose driver was caught in a viral video engaging in road rage.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the summons was served after the agency’s social media monitoring team flagged the video, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to go after erring motorists.

The video, posted on Facebook, showed the Toyota Prado driver cutting into a lane and making an offensive hand gesture toward another motorist.

The LTO identified the vehicle through its license plate and traced the registered owner to Makati City.

“The hearing will be the opportunity for us in the LTO to determine if the owner was driving the car at the time of the incident. If not, we want to identify this driver for proper action,” Mendoza said.

Once the driver is identified, the LTO said a 90-day preventive suspension of his license will be imposed for reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

The vehicle has also been placed under alarm, preventing any transactions while the investigation is ongoing, according to the order signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante.

“Failure to appear and submit a written comment/explanation as required shall be construed by this office as a waiver of your right to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the order stated.

The hearing is scheduled for August 28 at the LTO Central Office.
