MANILA – Former Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo A. Teves Jr. has manifested his intent to testify before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s inquiry into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

In a letter dated August 18 and sent through his lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, Teves conveyed his willingness to appear before the committee chaired by Senator Rodante Marcoleta.

The hearing, titled “Philippines Under Water,” is investigating supposed substandard and graft-tainted projects flagged by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Topacio wrote that Teves’ experience as a long-time member of the House of Representatives would provide “invaluable” insights on how graft is allegedly committed in flood control programs.

“Such testimony may aid your Honorable Committee in its investigation and ultimately help ensure good legislation and governance,” the letter read.

The communication noted that while the issue is “difficult to investigate” and “challenging considering the enormous problems,” Teves is offering to cooperate, stressing that identifying those responsible would be possible “with the cooperation of the people.”
