MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is processing the immediate disenrollment of Auxiliary Rear Admiral (RADM) Joseph Sy from the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) Executive Squadron.
Sy joined the PCGA Executive Squadron in 2018. The action follows verified reports that he misrepresented his citizenship, which the PCG said constitutes a serious breach of trust and violates the core values upheld by the Coast Guard and its civilian volunteer arm.
“His conduct has discredited the name and integrity of the PCGA as the PCG’s civilian volunteer arm, and as such, can no longer be tolerated,” Captain Lejanie Dy, Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Civil Relations Service (CG-7), said.
“The PCG and the PCGA remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of honor, patriotism, and public service. Any actions that compromise these principles will be dealt with accordingly,” she added.
The PCG also clarified that the PCGA’s role is limited to civic activities, including relief operations, disaster response support, and coastal cleanup drives. The auxiliary does not participate in maritime operations and does not have access to critical installations or sensitive offices of the PCG.
