MANILA — Senator Risa Hontiveros has been elected as the Minority Floor Leader of the Commission on Appointments (CA).

Hontiveros was among the officers elected after the commission convened for its first plenary session in the 20th Congress. She took her oath before CA chairman, Senate President Francis Escudero.

Her nomination was made by fellow Senate Deputy Minority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri.

“Malaking karangalan po na maihalal ng ating mga kasamahan na maging pinuno ng minorya sa Commission on Appointments. We will work hard to ensure that the CA conscientiously fulfills its mandate in confirming or rejecting key appointments by the President,” Hontiveros said.

“Pagsisikapan natin na tanging ang mga indibidwal na may sapat na kwalipikasyon at pagmamahal sa bayan ang makakalusot sa proseso ng CA confirmation,” she added.

The CA is mandated by the 1987 Constitution to confirm or reject key presidential appointments, including executive department heads, ambassadors, public ministers, consuls, and officers of the armed forces from the rank of colonel or naval captain and higher. It is composed of select members of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
