MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday administered the oath of office to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon at Malacañang, marking a leadership change following irregularities in flood control projects.
President Marcos also administered the oath to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez, who will take over Dizon’s previous post.
The President appointed Dizon to replace former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, who resigned after taking command responsibility for the anomalous flood control projects.
“I think it was Secretary Bonoan who said basically that he took responsibility because… all of these problems happened under his watch,” President Marcos said in a media interview in Pasay City.
“So, under the principle of command responsibility, he felt that he should leave his post,” he added.
President Marcos cited Dizon’s performance at the DOTr as a reason for his appointment. “He’s done a very good job sa DOTr. And I think he’s already set the stage for all of the things that we need to do. So, puwede na niyang iwanan and go to Public Works kasi he’s also familiar with the workings of the Department of Public Works and Highways,” he said.
