MANILA—The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of a truck driver involved in a fatal road crash in Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City on August 20.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the preventive suspension will last 90 days while investigation is ongoing, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure road safety.

Initial information from the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division, headed by Renante Melitante, showed that a male pedestrian died after being hit by a Shacman Tractor Head with Crane Truck while crossing the street. The driver reportedly fled and abandoned the victim.

A show cause order was issued to both the registered owner and the driver of the truck, directing them to appear at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City on September 5.

The driver faces complaints of reckless driving and being an “improper person to operate a motor vehicle.” Meanwhile, the registered owner was ordered to explain why he should not be penalized for employing a reckless driver.

Mendoza said the truck has been placed under alarm to prevent any transactions while the case is under investigation.
