MANILA—President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the reopening of the HD Hyundai Shipyard in Subic, Zambales would generate job opportunities for 4,300 Filipino workers and provide livelihood benefits for their families.

Speaking at the inauguration, Marcos highlighted the shipyard’s role in improving the socio-economic conditions of workers and boosting community development.

“By 2030, we look forward to this yard employing 4,300 Filipinos. That equates to thousands of families with food on the table, thousands of workers with dignity in their craft, and thousands of Filipinos who see shipbuilding as a source of livelihood,” Marcos said.

The President said the Philippines, long recognized as the world’s top supplier of seafarers, must also prove itself capable of building the ships they operate.

“For decades, even centuries, the Philippines has given the world our finest seafarers. It is only fitting that we also supply the world with excellent vessels to sail on,” he said.

Marcos added that the partnership with Hyundai would not only revive shipbuilding in the country but also secure a sustainable future for generations of Filipino workers. He described the project as a milestone in strengthening industries that support both national growth and global trade.

As of end-July 2025, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Philippines (HHIP) reported a total investment of USD130 million and employment of 1,200 workers. The figure is projected to rise to USD180 million by December 2025 and USD230 million by 2030.
