MANILA — Senator Erwin Tulfo met with French Ambassador to the Philippines Marie Fontanel to discuss strengthening economic cooperation and exploring foreign investment opportunities between the Philippines and France.

The meeting, part of Fontanel’s courtesy visit, focused on key sectors such as transportation, infrastructure, sustainable tourism, and regional development, particularly in Palawan.

Tulfo, who hails from Palawan and serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, stressed the government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business in the country. He said he plans to revisit the mandate of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) under Republic Act No. 11032 through a Senate resolution to streamline government processes and attract more investors.

Among the opportunities raised was the possible construction of a shipyard and a railway system that would link the northern and southern parts of Palawan. Tulfo expressed interest in partnering with French firms with expertise in railway construction.

“We are looking into the possibility of building highways or an expressway from north to south in Palawan. This would serve both local and international tourists. A feasibility study could help determine its viability,” he said.

Ambassador Fontanel welcomed the Philippines’ efforts to boost its investment climate.

“It’s a great achievement for your team. Investing in the Philippines has become much easier compared to before, thanks to improvements in the ease of doing business,” she said.

Tulfo also underscored Palawan’s potential as a hub for sustainable tourism and logistics, positioning it as a gateway for regional and international investments.

The meeting highlighted efforts to deepen Philippine-French relations, particularly in trade, infrastructure, and regional development.
