MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. left for Cambodia on Sunday for a three-day State Visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties and advancing regional cooperation in various sectors.

“During my visit, I will discuss ways to further diversify our cooperation and strengthen our intra-ASEAN relationships and exchanges by capitalizing on our complementary strengths in the face of global economic headwinds,” Marcos said in a departure statement at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

The President said discussions with Cambodian leaders will include expanding commercial relations and building more resilient value chains. He cited the Philippines’ partnership with Cambodia in defense and security, trade, agriculture, and heritage preservation.

Through closer defense cooperation, Marcos said the two countries hope to “uphold a peaceful, stable, and resilient ASEAN community.” He also reaffirmed cooperation with Cambodia in addressing transnational crime.

“As the Philippines prepares to take the helm of ASEAN in 2026, my visit will reinforce the importance of ASEAN Centrality and our commitment to build a progressive and inclusive region,” he added.

The President is scheduled to meet Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, as well as join a roundtable with Filipino and Cambodian business leaders to discuss trade and investment opportunities. The Philippines is seeking to boost exports to Cambodia, particularly in food, beverages, and pharmaceutical products, and expand the presence of Filipino franchise businesses.

Marcos will also meet the Filipino community in Cambodia during the visit.

The Department of Foreign Affairs earlier said agreements on countering transnational crimes, higher education, and air services are expected to be signed.

The State Visit comes at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni and follows the February 2025 visit of Prime Minister Hun Manet to Manila.
