MANILA – The Bureau of Customs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) intercepted 151,334 grams of suspected high-grade marijuana (Kush) in what it described as the largest Kush apprehension in its history.
The illegal drugs, valued at ₱227 million, were discovered in six checked-in bags belonging to two Filipino passengers arriving from Bangkok, Thailand via Cebu Pacific Flight 53932.
During routine profiling at NAIA Terminal 3, their luggage was flagged for x-ray screening. Inspectors ordered a 100 percent physical examination after suspicious images appeared, leading to the discovery of multiple transparent packs of suspected Kush. A Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K9 unit later confirmed the presence of illegal drugs.
The two suspects were arrested for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165) and were informed of their rights. Authorities conducted an inventory of the seized items before turning them and the suspects over to PDEA for investigation and proper disposition.
“This significant interception highlights our intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and secure our borders. The Bureau of Customs will remain vigilant and steadfast in preventing illegal drugs from entering the country,” Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno said.
District Collector Alexandra Y. Lumontad added, “This accomplishment demonstrates the importance of strict enforcement measures and strong inter-agency collaboration. BOC-NAIA remains committed to ensuring that our airports are not exploited by drug syndicates.”
The interception was made possible through the coordination of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG).
