MANILA – Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan on Sunday denounced the alleged involvement of a PCG personnel in the illegal online sale of firearms following a buy-bust operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Pampanga.
The suspect, who was assigned to the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Manila, was arrested for reportedly selling loose firearms online.
“The PCG has zero tolerance for any behavior that undermines public trust, tarnishes organizational integrity, or violates our ethical obligations. I have directed the CGS Manila to fully cooperate with the ongoing criminal investigation,” Admiral Gavan said in a statement.
He stressed that if found guilty of violating Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act, the suspect will be dishonorably discharged from the service.
“I call on all Coastguardians to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, and to remain steadfast in protecting the honor and reputation of the PCG in service to the Filipino people,” Gavan added.
