MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will provide security assistance to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel during ongoing inspections of major flood-control projects, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Sunday.

In an interview with reporters, Remulla stressed that while the PNP is not involved in technical assessments, their presence is vital due to security risks surrounding the inspection activities.

“Sa security side lang kami. Wala kaming alam sa forensic infrastructure pero marami kasing threat sa mga tao, so kasama kami sa mga tumutulong,” he said.

He added that police personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of DPWH engineers and inspectors. “Yes, andoon sila. Round-the-clock kasi delikado talaga buhay nila roon eh,” Remulla said.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) assured continued coordination with DPWH and other agencies to secure personnel and support government efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in infrastructure projects, particularly those meant to mitigate flooding nationwide.
