MANILA — Transport group Piston urged drivers and transport workers to join a nationwide strike on September 18 and a mass protest at Rizal Park (Luneta) on September 21 to demand accountability from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration.
In a statement, Piston spokesperson Mody Floranda said the actions are meant to unite the transport sector against corruption. The statement read: “Transport strike kontra korapsyon sa September 18! Protestang bayan sa Luneta sa September 21!”
The group called on all forms of transport to participate, saying: “Jeep, modern, bus, taxi, rider, trucker. Anumang moda ng transportasyon, lahat tayo ay pagkalalaki ng binabayarang buwis sa langis.”
Piston urged solidarity across organizations and vehicle types and issued a direct call to halt operations on the strike day: “Hindi na mahalaga kung anong organisasyon o pederasyon, kung anong moda ng transportasyon, basta galit ka sa korapsyon, MAGTIGIL PASADA SA SEPTEMBER 18!”
The statement demanded accountability from the President and his government: “Panagutin si Marcos Jr. sa tiwali niyang pamamahala! Ikulong ang lahat ng magnanakaw, ibalik ang lahat ng ninakaw!”
Piston said the Sept. 18 strike would be followed by a larger public demonstration at Luneta on Sept. 21. The group appealed to the entire transport sector to join both actions.
