MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepared more than 2.5 million family food packs (FFPs) and other relief items for areas expected to be affected by Tropical Depression (TD) Mirasol.

DSWD spokesperson and Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said Wednesday that quick response teams are on standby to assist local government units (LGUs).

“Our frontline disaster response personnel especially in areas that have been identified to be affected by TD Mirasol are closely monitoring the situation so that we can send help immediately where it is much-needed,” Dumlao said.

She said the agency has 2,578,821 FFPs prepositioned in warehouses nationwide, along with 114,623 boxes of ready-to-eat food (RTEF) for those who may be stranded by suspended sea travel or evacuated from their homes.

The DSWD also has 313,064 non-food items (NFIs) such as blankets, family and hygiene kits, kitchen kits, and modular tents for evacuees.

Dumlao added that the DSWD continues to coordinate closely with LGUs in line with the directive of Secretary Rex Gatchalian.

“We will see to it that we will act fast to augmentation requests from our LGUs. Importante ito para sa atin para siguradong mabilis at sapat yung resources ng mga lokal na pamahalaan as the very frontline disaster responders to their disaster-hit constituents. Ang mahalaga, gaya nga ng laging binabanggit ng ating Pangulo, walang Pilipinong magugutom sa gitna ng sakuna,” she said.

As a member of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the DSWD will coordinate with the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) for updates on the impact of Mirasol.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, PAGASA reported that Mirasol was traversing northern Luzon after making landfall in Aurora province.

Dumlao urged the public to remain vigilant and follow the orders of their LGUs for their safety.
