MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has submitted a revised budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2026 amounting to P625.78 billion, or 28.99 percent lower than its earlier proposal of P881.31 billion.

In a letter addressed to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, DPWH Secretary Vicente B. Dizon said the reduction followed the President’s directive and the instructions of the House Committee on Appropriations to review and revise the department’s budget for the National Expenditure Program (NEP).

The DPWH said the main highlight of the revision is the removal of all Locally Funded Flood Control projects amounting to P252 billion.

“The Department has exerted its best efforts, within the very limited period allotted, to ensure that the issues raised in the previously submitted budget, such as the funding of completed and duplicate projects, are adequately addressed,” the letter stated.

The DPWH also conveyed the President’s recommendation that the fiscal space made available by the reduction be reallocated to programs and projects in agriculture, education, health care, housing, labor, social welfare, and information technology.

Dizon said the revision “represents the most practical and achievable output given the limited timeframe given to the Department.”
