MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has delivered an additional 5,000 family food packs (FFPs) to its warehouses in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) as Super Typhoon Nando threatens northern Luzon.
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD Disaster Response Management Group said Sunday that 4,000 FFPs have arrived at the agency’s Kalinga warehouse, while another 1,000 were delivered to Benguet.
“The offloading of the supplies is ongoing,” Dumlao said, adding that CAR is among the regions directly along the super typhoon’s path.
The agency is also transporting 8,500 food packs to Cagayan and Isabela to reinforce relief stocks already prepositioned in Cagayan Valley.
“Patuloy po ang koordinasyon natin sa ating mga field offices para masiguro na sapat ang mga family food packs at iba pang relief supplies para sa ating mga kababayan na maaapektuhan ng bagyo,” Dumlao, who also serves as DSWD spokesperson, said.
Volunteers are working at the Luzon Disaster Resource Center in Pasay City to ensure continuous production of food packs, while the DSWD has been on red alert status since Friday to guarantee a swift response.
With Nando packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 230 kph, Dumlao urged residents in high-risk areas to stay home and follow evacuation orders from local authorities.
“Huwag na po muna tayong lalabas sa ating mga tahanan. Makakaasa po kayo na darating ang tulong mula sa inyong gobyerno,” she said.
