MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to mobilize all concerned agencies and assist local governments in preparing for Super Typhoon Nando, which intensified Sunday morning.

OCD Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said Marcos instructed the NDRRMC and its 44 member agencies to stay proactive and provide full support until the typhoon exits the country.

“We are here to prepare for this super typhoon Nando. Sa utos na rin ng ating mahal na Pangulo… tayo ay maging proactive at talagang tulungan yung ating mga local government units,” Alejandro said during a press briefing at Camp Crame.

He noted that the NDRRMC, led by Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, has coordinated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Department of Education, and other agencies to ensure readiness.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that “Nando” (international name: Ragasa) reached super typhoon strength on Sunday morning while still inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Pagasa warned of possible life-threatening storm surges in northern Luzon within the next 96 hours:

  • Batanes – more than 3 meters
  • Cagayan, Ilocos Norte – 2.1 to 3 meters
  • Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan – 1 to 2 meters

Alejandro reminded the public that preparedness is a shared duty. “We urge everyone to cooperate, be proactive, and follow advisories. Rest assured, the full force of the government is on alert 24/7 until this super typhoon passes,” he said.
