MANILA – Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Vice Chairman Erwin Tulfo has called on contractors Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya, Sarah Discaya, and dismissed Bulacan First District Engineer Henry Alcantara to disclose the names of high-ranking government officials allegedly involved in anomalous flood control projects.
Tulfo said the three should follow the example of former Bulacan Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez, who Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong earlier confirmed had provided sensitive information to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
“If they’re afraid to tell everything to the Blue Ribbon, then they can do it at the ICI instead, because their statements there will be strictly confidential, but still under oath, of course,” Tulfo said in an interview.
The ICI was recently created by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to investigate widespread corruption in infrastructure projects, particularly in flood control. Its mandate includes identifying officials involved in the alleged misuse of hundreds of billions of pesos and filing charges in court.
Marcos earlier vowed that the ICI would not spare anyone from accountability, including friends, relatives, or allies of the administration.
Tulfo added that with evidence already surfacing in the Senate’s hearings, he expects the ICI to expedite the filing of cases.
“Let’s just wait and see the results of the ICI’s investigation on who will be charged in the flood control corruption; after all, the public already has an idea of who the high-ranking officials are behind this,” the senator said.
