MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended more than ₱2 million worth of aid to families affected by the combined effects of Tropical Depression Mirasol, Super Typhoon Nando, and the southwest monsoon.
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, spokesperson of the DSWD and head of the Disaster Response Management Group, said the assistance included 3,872 family food packs (FFPs) and non-food items such as family, kitchen, and sleeping kits, as well as laminated sacks.
“These relief items have already reached our disaster-hit kababayans in Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Camarines Sur, Capiz, and Iloilo whose local government units have coordinated with us for additional supplies to support their local response operations,” Dumlao said Monday.
According to the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), the weather disturbances have so far affected 31,626 families or 113,094 individuals in 297 barangays across Regions 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
In preparation for Nando’s further impact, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said the agency has coordinated with local officials to ensure timely delivery of relief. In a Facebook post, he cited prepositioned stocks in Batanes, including 22,000 FFPs ready for distribution under the “Buong Bansa Handa” program.
The program has established nearly 1,000 warehouses nationwide with prepositioned food and non-food supplies.
The DSWD also maintains ₱1.5 billion in standby funds and disaster stockpiles, along with response assets such as a mobile command center, mobile kitchens, water tankers, and mobile water units.
