MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that a total of 5,929 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded across the country as of Thursday afternoon, September 25, 2025, due to Severe Tropical Storm Opong (international name: Bualoi).

In its maritime safety advisory, the PCG said 2,340 rolling cargoes, 81 vessels, and 31 motorbancas were also unable to leave ports, while 355 vessels and 226 motorbancas took shelter in safe harbors to avoid rough seas.

The Southern Tagalog region recorded 1,327 stranded individuals, along with 267 rolling cargoes, 16 vessels, and eight motorbancas. In the Bicol region, 2,279 passengers were stranded, with 916 rolling cargoes and four vessels.

In Eastern Visayas, the PCG monitored 1,262 stranded individuals, 705 rolling cargoes, six vessels, and seven motorbancas. Northeastern Mindanao reported 819 stranded passengers, 237 rolling cargoes, 13 vessels, and nine motorbancas.

Meanwhile, Central Visayas recorded 241 stranded individuals, 215 rolling cargoes, 42 vessels, and seven motorbancas. Northeastern Luzon and Northwestern Luzon also reported vessels and motorbancas taking shelter in ports.

The PCG monitored a total of 101 affected ports nationwide. Authorities advised the public to refrain from traveling by sea and urged mariners to remain in port until weather conditions improve.
