MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Sunday reported that at least 148 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded in several ports in Southern Tagalog and Bicol as Typhoon Opong continued to affect sea travel.
In its maritime safety advisory covering 8 a.m. to 12 noon on September 28, the PCG said 62 rolling cargoes and 12 vessels were stranded in Bicol ports, including Masbate, Mobo, Mintac, Aroroy, San Pascual, Claveria, and Cawayan.
The Coast Guard also monitored 48 vessels and 11 motorbancas taking shelter across 14 ports. Of these, eight vessels and seven motorbancas were in Southern Tagalog ports—Lucena, Tilik, Mariil, Pola, Romblon, Looc, and Tingloy. Another 40 vessels and four motorbancas were reported taking shelter in Bicol.
Authorities advised passengers and cargo operators to remain on alert as weather conditions may continue to disrupt maritime operations.
