MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is monitoring a fishing vessel that ran aground off the coast of Paluan, Occidental Mindoro amid rough seas brought by Typhoon Opong.
The FV Jishun 2 was spotted about 10 meters from the shoreline of Sitio Pamustusin, Barangay Harrison on September 27, the PCG said Sunday. Personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Paluan, who were conducting a coastal security patrol, immediately responded and coordinated with the vessel’s master.
According to the captain, the vessel left Barangay Tayamaan, Mamburao on September 23 to take shelter in Sitio Pamustusin. On September 26, at around 3:25 p.m., the vessel attempted to maneuver in poor visibility due to strong waves and heavy rainfall. Its anchor line became entangled with the propeller, causing loss of control and eventual grounding on a sandy seabed at 4:32 p.m.
The Coast Guard said no oil spill was detected and all crew members were safe. CGSS Paluan advised the vessel master to seek towing assistance from the owner and file a marine protest in line with maritime procedures.
The PCG assured that it is conducting close monitoring, environmental inspections, and safety measures while awaiting marine services for the safe extraction of the vessel.
