MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) intercepted three unclaimed parcels containing suspected illegal drugs worth P8.8 million at a warehouse facility in Pasay City.
The operation, held last September 25, was carried out in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen border protection and intensify the anti-drug campaign.
The parcels, initially declared as electronic equipment and garments, were flagged during x-ray screening and later tested positive during K-9 sweeping. Physical inspection revealed 992 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu in one parcel, while the two others contained a total of 1,396 grams of high-grade marijuana (kush).
The seized drugs are now under BOC-NAIA custody pending confirmatory testing and further investigation. Authorities said the case involves violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno commended the vigilance of the operatives. “The Bureau of Customs is determined to uncover and stop every attempt by drug traffickers to sneak illegal substances into our country. We remain steadfast in protecting our borders and shielding our communities from the harms of illegal drugs,” he said.
District Collector Alexandra Y. Lumontad added that strict enforcement and close inter-agency collaboration allow BOC-NAIA to remain a frontline defense against smuggling and illicit drug activities.
