MANILA – Far Eastern University-Diliman (FEU-D) halted Adamson University’s three-game winning streak with an 82-73 win in the UAAP Season 88 high school basketball tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Dwyne Enriquez led the Baby Tamaraws with 28 points, six rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block. Prince Cariño added a double-double of 26 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks as FEU-D improved to a 3-1 record, joining University of the East and Adamson in second place behind National University Nazareth School (4-0).

The Baby Falcons trailed closely at 36-34 in the third quarter before FEU-D unleashed a decisive 25-8 run behind Enriquez, Cariño, Kyle Mojica, and James Chavez to seize a 61-42 advantage entering the final frame.

“We have a lot of players who aren’t very offensive players, but they can contribute so much on defense, that’s why we need to involve them in the next games,” said FEU-D head coach Muriel Garcia.

Fran Flores paced Adamson with 22 points, five steals, three rebounds, and two assists, while Edison Jordan posted 15 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, two assists, and two blocks.

In the other game, Ateneo de Manila University ended its three-game slump with a commanding 93-67 victory over De La Salle-Zobel.

Sky Jazul powered the Blue Eagles with 28 points, seven rebounds, and a steal, while Jul Juangco, returning from a minor sprain, tallied 17 points and six rebounds. Sky Dela Rosa also contributed 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals as Ateneo pulled away in the third quarter, turning a 43-all halftime deadlock into a 70-48 lead.

“The bench has to step up also. This team is not all about the starters, it’s all about everybody. It’s really necessary once their number is called, they should be ready to deliver for the team,” said Ateneo coach Jeffrey Mangubat, who notched his first win since taking over from Reggie Aromin.
