SANTA ROSA, Laguna — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested an Indian national in Laguna for overstaying and for lack of valid travel documents.
BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. identified the foreigner as Abhishek Kumar, 24, who was apprehended in front of his residence in Barangay Malitlit, Santa Rosa City, on October 1.
The arrest was carried out by BI intelligence operatives in coordination with the Santa Rosa City Police Station, following a mission order issued by BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado.
Upon verification, Kumar was found to have violated provisions of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 for overstaying and for being an undocumented alien.
He failed to present a passport, claiming that it was in the possession of his cousin in India.
Kumar has since been transferred to Manila for deportation proceedings.
Viado said the bureau remains firm in enforcing immigration laws and removing illegal aliens from the country.
“We will not hesitate to implement the law against foreigners who overstay and disregard our immigration policies,” Viado said.
