MANILA – Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation – Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) arrested a man in Pagadian City for allegedly posting a photo of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Facebook with the caption “Headshot.”
The suspect, identified as Michael P. Romero, also known as “Mike Romero,” was arrested for inciting to sedition under Article 142 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
According to the NBI, the post, which featured an image of President Marcos with a red arrow and the caption “Headshot,” gained attention on social media and prompted an immediate investigation by cybercrime agents.
Through cyber patrolling, the NBI-CCD was able to trace the account to Romero. Agents proceeded to Pagadian City on October 6 and, with assistance from the NBI-Pagadian District Office (NBI-PAGDO), conducted surveillance to confirm his location.
Romero was arrested the following day after admitting ownership of the Facebook account. He was informed of his constitutional rights and brought to the NBI-CCD office in Pasay City for standard booking procedures.
NBI Director Santiago commended the agents involved in the operation and reminded the public to use social media responsibly and refrain from posting malicious content.
