MANILA – Senator Bam Aquino thanked the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for deferring the implementation of the mandatory Trustmark requirement for online businesses.

Aquino issued the statement following DTI’s decision to make the Trustmark requirement voluntary until the end of the year while the agency reviews the policy.

Earlier, Aquino urged DTI to reconsider the mandatory imposition of the Trustmark, saying it would place an unnecessary burden on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The Trustmark is a digital badge signifying government recognition for online merchants and platforms that adhere to standards of trustworthiness, safety, and fair e-commerce practices.

Aquino also called on DTI to strengthen its campaign against online scams, particularly as the holiday season approaches.

Nananawagan tayo sa DTI na paigtingin pa ang kampanya laban sa mga scam sa online selling platforms, na inaasahan nating tataas ngayong panahon ng kapaskuhan,” he said.

The senator likewise reminded consumers to stay vigilant and verify the legitimacy of online sellers before making purchases.

A longtime advocate for MSMEs and consumer welfare, Aquino authored and sponsored the Go Negosyo Act (Republic Act 10644) during his tenure as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship.

The law aims to provide MSMEs with better access to markets and financing, expand training and capacity-building programs, and streamline the business registration process for entrepreneurs.
