MANILA — Twelve years after the annulment of Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago, Claudine’s mother, Inday Barretto, has alleged that the actor had been abusive toward her daughter.
In a tell-all interview with entertainment host Ogie Diaz on Sunday, Oct. 19, Inday shared details of Raymart’s alleged physical and sexual abuse of Claudine during their marriage.
“Alam ko kung may sakit sila, may kagalit sila, or if one of them, may away sa partners nila, I can hear them crying… That was the start of the famous injection thing, si Raymart,” she said, referring to what she called the “injection incident.” “That was episode number one, there were seven more that came… alam mo naman kapag sinasaktan ang tao eh.”
Inday also recounted an alleged incident where Claudine appeared dazed after an altercation with Raymart.
“Bumaba si Claudine parang normal. Hindi na siya ‘yung anak ko, parang zombie… Kita ko pagbaba ni Claudine sa stairs, parang she just collapsed kay Daddy… Malamig pa sa yelo ‘yung paa,” she said, before claiming that the actor had assaulted her daughter.
She alleged that her grandson, Santino, had witnessed the incident, which she said she kept secret for years “not out of shame pero baka di ko mapigilan ang sarili ko.”
Inday further described other instances of alleged abuse, including when Raymart supposedly covered Claudine’s mouth with a face towel and chased her during an argument.
“Tinakpan niya ng face towel ang mouth ni Claudine… Ang nakita ko lang, hinahabol niya si Claudine parang daga,” she said.
According to Inday, she once took Claudine to Thailand to prove that the actress was not addicted to drugs, as previously rumored, but was instead struggling with mental health issues.
“Saktan niyo na ko’t lahat, but don’t touch my children. You’re gonna get it,” she said.
Barretto and Santiago’s marriage was annulled in 2013 after a series of public disputes. Claudine has since said she has no intention of reconciling with her ex-husband.
(Raymart Santiago has yet to issue a statement on the allegations.)
