MANILA — The remains of the Filipino seafarer who died in the Houthi rebels’ attack on the vessel MV Minervagracht in the Gulf of Aden on September 29, 2025, arrived in the Philippines, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

The remains were received by the seafarer’s family, along with representatives from the DMW, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the licensed manning agency that deployed him to the vessel.

According to initial information, the remains will be brought to Iligan, the hometown of his wife, before being transferred to Zamboanga del Sur, where his parents and other relatives await.

The DMW extended its condolences to the family of the deceased seafarer and assured continued assistance and support in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The department also urged the public to offer prayers and respect for the bereaved family during their time of mourning.

Meanwhile, the DMW said it is conducting an investigation to determine whether the manning agency and its foreign principal should be held liable for any violations of agency regulations.

Earlier, ten other Filipino crew members of the MV Minervagracht safely returned to the country on October 4, while another injured seafarer arrived on October 10 and is currently recovering.
