MANILA — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) expects around 2.2 million passengers to travel via seaports during All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days on November 1 and 2, higher than the 1.9 million recorded last year.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago attributed the increase to Malacañang’s proclamation declaring October 31, 2025, a special non-working day, giving Filipinos a long weekend.
“Layunin po ng PPA na matiyak ang ligtas, maayos, at maginhawang biyahe ng bawat pasahero ngayong Undas (The PPA’s goals are to ensure safe, proper, and comfortable travel to every passenger this Undas),” Santiago said during an inspection at Batangas Port on Monday.
The busiest ports expected during the period are Iloilo and Jordan Ports in Iloilo, Batangas Port, Calapan Port in Oriental Mindoro, and Bredco Port in Bacolod City.
Under the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Undas 2025, PPA Port Management Offices (PMO) will implement full manpower deployment to maintain continuous operations. Santiago said all personnel leaves will be suspended during the period to strengthen preparations.
To ensure passenger safety, the PPA is coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP)–Maritime Group (MG). Malasakit Help Desks will also operate 24/7 at ports to assist travelers.
Santiago reminded the public to arrive early, purchase tickets only from legitimate outlets, and avoid prohibited items such as sharp objects, explosives, and flammable liquids to prevent delays at x-ray inspections.
He also cited the Department of Health’s (DOH) advisory on rising influenza-like illness cases and urged passengers to practice good hygiene, get sufficient rest, and maintain a healthy diet.
The Batangas Port inspection was led by acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, who instructed the PPA, PCG, and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to ensure comfortable journeys for maritime passengers. (PNA)
