
MANILA — Ischaemic heart diseases, neoplasms, and cerebrovascular diseases remained the top three causes of death in the Philippines in 2024, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Data from the PSA showed that from January to December 2024, ischaemic heart diseases were the leading cause of death with 134,078 cases, accounting for 19.1 percent of total deaths nationwide.
Neoplasms, or abnormal tissue growths often associated with cancer, ranked second with 77,433 deaths or 11.0 percent of the total. Cerebrovascular diseases followed in third place with 68,736 deaths, comprising 9.8 percent of total fatalities.
Pneumonia was the fourth leading cause of death with 47,026 cases or 6.7 percent, while diabetes mellitus placed fifth with 43,944 deaths or 6.3 percent.
The PSA noted that the leading causes of death for 2024 remained consistent with those recorded during the same period in 2023.
