MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday that no Filipinos were reported injured as Hurricane Melissa swept across Jamaica.

According to the DFA, around 500 Filipinos are currently living and working in the Caribbean nation.

“As of 29 October 2025, 5:00 a.m. Philippine time, no casualties or injuries among Filipino nationals have been reported,” the DFA said.

The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Kingston, Jamaica, are monitoring the situation and assessing the hurricane’s impact while checking on the condition of Filipinos in affected areas.

The full extent of the damage in Jamaica has yet to be determined, but Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared the island a “disaster area.”

Local reports said most of the island was without internet service and that major airports were closed, although the capital Kingston was largely spared. (PNA)
