MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called on participants of the upcoming anti-corruption rallies on November 30 to maintain peace and avoid any acts of violence, expressing hope that the demonstrations would not mirror the unrest that occurred during the September 21 protests.
“The only concern I have when we have demonstrations for whatever reason is that there are agitators who will go and try to cause trouble. What demonstrator goes to a demonstration with Molotov cocktails that are not intending to cause trouble or to hurt people?” Marcos said.
The President was referring to the protest actions last September 21, when some participants clashed with police officers on Ayala Bridge in Manila during rallies denouncing corruption in government.
Marcos emphasized that violence would only lead to harm, noting that such incidents could result in injuries not only among demonstrators but also among law enforcement officers assigned to ensure public safety.
He acknowledged the public’s frustration over corruption in government but urged protesters to channel their sentiments peacefully.
Marcos said violence “would do no good” and reiterated that it is not the solution to addressing corruption in the country. (PNA)
