CAIRO, EGYPT — The Philippine Embassy in Egypt has reminded Filipino workers in the country, as well as those planning to work in Egypt, to be vigilant against illegal third-country recruitment schemes, where employment is offered through another country but the actual work is in Egypt.

The Embassy advised Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to apply only through Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)-accredited agencies and to ensure all job contracts are backed by legal work permits, visas, and valid employer documentation that comply with DMW requirements, including minimum salary standards.

OFWs are warned against recruiters promising “easy placements” or work in Egypt without proper documentation, as such offers are illegal and may lead to exploitation, detention, or deportation. Any suspicious recruitment activity should be reported immediately to the Embassy or the DMW.

The Embassy also reiterated guidance from Egyptian authorities, reminding Filipinos that all foreign workers must hold valid work permits and licenses, carry IDs/passports and residence cards, and cooperate with authorities when requested. It emphasized that the Philippine passport remains government property and must not be retained by employers or sponsors.
