MANILA — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced that 16,433 police personnel will be deployed for simultaneous prayer rallies organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) and the United People’s Initiative (UPI) in Manila and Quezon City from November 16 to 18.

NCRPO spokesperson Maj. Hazel Asilo said officers will be assigned to Rizal Park in Manila for the INC rally and to the EDSA People Power Monument for the UPI gathering. She added that police will coordinate with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to manage traffic along EDSA.

“We are also monitoring other locations that may host lightning rallies, such as the US Embassy, Mendiola, and the usual protest areas,” Asilo said. She added that announcements regarding road rerouting and parking arrangements will be issued to accommodate participants, including buses and other vehicles, throughout the three-day events.

Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said inter-agency coordination meetings have been conducted to ensure organized deployment and support for both participants and the public. “We respect the rights of every Filipino to freely practice their religion. Our task is to ensure that this rally, like any peaceful gathering, remains safe for both participants and the surrounding community,” he said.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said personnel will focus on crowd management, traffic coordination, and securing the areas around the rally venues.

The police also emphasized the guidance of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., underscoring the importance of balancing citizens’ rights with public order during mass gatherings. Attendees were reminded to follow traffic regulations, cooperate with security personnel, and participate responsibly.
