
MANILA — All 82 provinces in the Philippines posted economic growth in 2024, with Eastern Samar recording the fastest expansion at 10.2 percent, according to the latest Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) results. It was the only province to achieve double-digit growth last year.
Other provinces in the top 10 for growth included Batanes (9.57%), Dinagat Islands (9.56%), Bataan (9.3%), Bohol (8.8%), Camiguin (8.6%), Marinduque (8.5%), Siquijor (7.9%), Tarlac (7.6%), and Misamis Occidental (7.5%). These provinces grew faster than the national GDP growth rate of 5.7 percent.
In terms of economic size, Laguna remained the only province with a trillion-peso economy, posting PhP 1.08 trillionin GDP in 2024. Laguna accounted for 4.9 percent of the national GDP, followed by Cavite (3.7%), Batangas (3.1%), Bulacan (3.0%), Pampanga (2.7%), Cebu (2.0%), Pangasinan (1.8%), Rizal (1.7%), Nueva Ecija (1.5%), and Bataan (1.4%). Together, the top 10 provinces contributed 25.7 percent of the national GDP. The total GDP of all provinces was estimated at PhP 12.44 trillion, representing 55.9 percent of the national economy.
Almost all provincial economies were predominantly Services-based. Out of the 82 provinces, 69 relied mainly on Services-related activities, while nine were Industry-based and four were focused on Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing (AFF).
