MANILA — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) emphasized the importance of reliable data in crafting policies that serve the Filipino people during the closing ceremony of the 36th National Statistics Month (NSM).

“Data is the lens through which we understand our people’s needs, and the map that helps us reach a better future,” BSP Monetary Board Member Rosalia V. De Leon said at the BSP Head Office in Manila. She added that data allows the government to measure progress and “tells us what is working, what is not, and where we must act with greater urgency.”

This year’s NSM, themed “Accelerating the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All,” highlighted the importance of inclusive and accessible data in tracking the country’s progress toward the SDGs, guiding policy decisions, and identifying areas needing interventions.

Throughout October, the Philippine Statistical System organized panel discussions, scientific sessions, and interactive exhibits, bringing together stakeholders from government, academe, media, and the private sector.

The activities showcased how reliable and well-utilized data can drive progress and improve the lives of Filipinos.

During the closing ceremony, the Philippine Statistics Authority recognized government agencies, local government units, private organizations, and youth groups for promoting the effective use of statistics.

National Statistics Month has been celebrated every October since 1990, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 issued on September 20, 1990.
