PAMPANGA — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) awarded the insurance proceeds to the family of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who passed away in Cyprus, reaffirming its commitment to support OFWs and their families.
The claim was formally turned over to the OFW’s children through their mother, as well as to the OFW’s father, during a ceremony at the DMW Regional Office in Pampanga on November 18, 2025. Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi and Regional Director 3 Atty. Marion S. Sevilla witnessed the awarding alongside Assistant Director Winnie Frida Palma and OWWA representative Pilipina C. Dina.
Shamaica Aguirre, Manager of Pioneer Insurance Company, led the insurance claims ceremony with her team.
The family expressed gratitude for the government’s support but noted that they are still awaiting the results of the ongoing investigation into the OFW’s death. The wife said, “We are very grateful for all the assistance given by the government, but we still look forward to the result of the case, the ultimate reason for his death.”
Assistant Secretary Legaspi highlighted the DMW’s efforts to fast-track insurance claims, noting that the proceeds were released in less than ten days. “Good thing na na-fast track ang proceeds ng insurance claims. As instructed by Secretary Cacdac, tutukan ang insurance. Natutuwa tayo kasi wala pang 10 days, naayos na,” he said.
During a prior visit, DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac assured the family that the Department would actively assist and expedite the processing of all insurance claims.
Aguirre of Pioneer Insurance added, “Lagi naman pong kaagapay ang Pioneer ng mga OFWs. Kung mayroon po kayong kailangan sa Pioneer, masaya kaming maglingkod sa inyo.”
