MANILA – Fourteen police officers have been relieved from their posts as authorities investigate their alleged involvement in the robbery and rape of a Grade 9 student in Bacoor, Cavite.
Acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said on Monday that he directed Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, regional director of PNP CALABARZON, to relieve and place under restrictive custody all personnel involved while the probe is ongoing.
Eight of the 14 officers, members of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group – Special Operations Unit in Calabarzon (PDEG-SOU 4A), were arrested in Laguna on Sunday following the victim’s report.
Initial investigations indicate that the officers, claiming they were conducting a police operation, forced their way into the victim’s home on Saturday, seized her jewelry and mobile phone, and sexually assaulted her.
Nartatez reiterated the PNP’s “zero tolerance for abuse, misconduct, or any action that undermines public trust.” He added that personnel who demonstrate dedication and integrity will be recognized, while those who violate standards will face legal consequences.
He also assured the victim’s family that he would personally monitor the investigation and instructed the PNP Internal Affairs Service to expedite the process.
Meanwhile, the National Police Commission has deployed a four-man investigative team to Bacoor City to independently assess the case and determine any administrative liability of the officers.
